Barnsley Apprenticeship Pledge – a year on!

Barnsley College is celebrating the first anniversary of the launch of the Barnsley Apprenticeship Pledge – an initiative launched by the One Barnsley business group which encourages organisations to pledge their commitment to work towards employing 2.5% of their Barnsley workforce in Apprenticeship positions by April 2014.  We signed the pledge in 2013 and we now have eight apprentices across the group, six of which are at our businesses in South Yorkshire; we are pleased to say we have well achieved the goal with 3% of our workforce are apprentices. We have further committed to employ at least one apprentice per year across our group as we continue to contribute and raise the profile of apprenticeships  Nationally Barnsley is leading the way, with the national average number of apprenticeships sadly decreasing, with the commitment of businesses in Barnsley, South Yorkshire figures continue to grow.  There are over 100 businesses signed up to the pledge, which is a commitment to reducing the number of young people out of work, developing a pool of talent and underpinning skills in businesses for the future.
