Angela Smith MP visited Cawthorne
On behalf of the Yorkshire Region of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), and Naylor Industries, our local MP, Angela Smith, visited our Cawthorne site and saw some of the great things Naylor are doing, specifically with regard to the investments in skills, apprenticeships and graduate training schemes – investments which will help protect our future engineering and manufacturing capability across the Naylor group. Naylor has 9 Apprentices already in post and 5 more planned for 2015; with a long term commitment to at least 1 new Apprentice per year. We asked for Angela’s support in helping to ensure that more young people leaving school are informed about the fantastic career opportunities available within engineering & manufacturing. Angela met 4 of Naylor’s apprentices and 2 of its graduate trainees. She heard from them first-hand about why they had chosen to follow technical careers with Naylor, talked about their personal aspirations and learnt how Naylor are supporting their development.
Following informal roundtable discussions, Angela was presented with a copy of the IMechE’s Engineering Manifesto, and pledged her support to this and the engineering profession, by posing for photographs with Naylor’s apprentices and the Manifesto pledge card. This was followed by a tour of the Clay and Plastics factories, where Anglea was also able to see some of the multi-million pound investments recently made in additional capacity – reinforcing Naylor’s position as a leading UK manufacturer of high quality construction products for the global market.
